Map of the ocean basins included in the study. Two sub-areas were investigated per basin. In the Atlantic Ocean: the Azores islands and the Canary Islands. In the Mediterranean Sea: the Alboran Sea, and the Western Mediterranean (A Ligurian Sea, B Tyrrhenian Sea, C Sardinian waters, D Provençal Sea, E Spanish waters, F Balearic waters).
